Phillip Werren- Polish Wedding Music (1967)

Listen to Phillip Werren + Polish Wedding Music

The above track comes from the album Electronic Music (1968-1971) which was reissued by Cast Exotic Archives. The recordings were originally released in 1971 as a 4 LP Box Set in an edition of 100. Phillip Werren is a Canadian composer who started working with electronics in the 1960s. This collection compiles his early output from time spent in the electronic music studio at Simon Fraser University, as well as the studios at McGill University and Radio Warsaw in Poland. “Polish Wedding Music” is part sound collage and part synthesized meanderings. It unexpectedly veers into a tremulous rhythm toward the middle, after a few minutes of what seems to be distorted cello. Werren ends the piece with a crescendo of multi-layered clapping samples. The other works on the album, Phases, Vortex, and Music for Phyllis are equally as impressive. Phases is premised on the poetry of W.B. Yeats, Vortex investigates the intermodulation of 12 oscillators and Music for Phyllis was produced as a four channel musical accompaniment to a dance performance by Phyllis Lamhut. Visit the Phillip Werren page on the Cast Exotic Archives site for more information and excerpts.

I have to thank George for introducing me to this.
