Group Doueh- Guitar Music from the Western Sahara LP

Apparently the NY Times already wrote about it but it’s worth mentioning again because this record is incredible.

A selection of recordings spanning the career of guitarist Doueh, the LP came out this year on Seattle’s stellar label Sublime Frequencies. The quality of the recordings vary from gritty cassette recordings from the 1980s (Eid El Arsh) to more polished studio recordings (Cheyla ya Haiuune). Doueh is a self taught guitarist from the Western Sahara whose unique and potent guitar styling draws influence from classical Spanish guitar as well as Western pop (Eid for Dakhla). Melded with traditional North African percussion and singing, the songs are distinctively raw and mesmerizing.

A real gem.
