Carsten Nicolai- fades (2006)

Carsten Nicolai’s work distills sound and light to its essence and then reconfigures these elements to challenge perception. fades manipulates white light and white noise through the density of each form. When projected into a misted room, the video takes on sculptural qualities. Floating specks visible through the rays of light come to represent the singular units forming the basis of sound and light.

See below for a short and very rough video of the installation. The sound quality is not adequately rendered. For a full version of the video as well as audible sound, please visit the Pace Wildenstein site.

fades will be on display at Pace Wildenstein on W. 25th Street until November 3rd.
