Aluk Todolo

I discovered this band from Brian Turner’s radio show on WFMU two weeks back and whoa.
Aluk Todolo derive their name from a form of ancestor worship in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, which is fitting for a band whose aesthetic and music draw heavily from occult tradition. Carefully combining the repetitive hypnotism of krautrock with the chaotic heaviness of black metal, the end result sounds something like Rhys Chatham driving Chrome through a meatgrinder. (Or vice versa.) Their debut LP Descension will come out Oct. 23rd on Public Guilt.
